If you're looking for a new outdoor adventure this summer, then you might want to consider heading over to Petawawa Terrace Provincial Park. This park is located in the town of Petawawa, Ontario, which is situated between the Petawawa River and the Ottawa River.

The park is situated right in the centre of the town and spans over 215 hectares of green space. It's home to a tall sand terrace and beautiful natural springs.

According to the official Petawawa site, there are no Ontario Parks visitor services, facilities or activities at this park. Also, the map signage is outdated. There are a few extra side trails not shown and other trails are overgrown or inaccessible at various times of the year.

Per Ontario Parks, you can still find marine clay left over from the ancient Champlain Sea at Petawawa Terrace. You’ll also find sandy soils here which are a rare landscape in Ontario. And of course, the coldwater springs.

“The terraces show us the history of post-glacial erosion, giving a hint of what has gone before, while also providing diverse habitat for wildlife,” shares Ontario Parks.

Be sure to wear proper footwear if you plan on exploring the park. And after a long day of exploring, you can fuel up at one of the many local restaurants in Petawawa.
