Unveiled as a mid-size luxury crossover SUV in 2009, the Acura ZDX returns in 2024 as the brand's first electric vehicle. The all-electric ZDX was shown to the world last August and uses the General Motors Ultium platform that can be found in the Cadillac Lyriq, Chevrolet Blazer EV, and the Honda Prologue. Developed by the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles, the Performance EV Concept is allegedly ready to enter production in Ohio, where Honda invested no less than $4.4 billion in retooling its existing plant to make it ready for manufacturing both EVs and various components.
For now, there is no public information regarding the range, power, smart features, or battery technology that will be used in the road-ready version of what is currently known as the Acura Performance EV Concept. As a reference, the all-electric Acura ZDX comes with three powertrain choices, as below:
The EPA range of the models above specified by Acura can hit 313 miles (504 km) for the A-Spec but goes down to 278 miles (447 km) for the Type S. Fast charging at up to 190 kW is provided, allowing a charge from 20 to 80 percent in less than 45 minutes and an additional 81 miles (130 km) of autonomy in just 10 minutes (for the single motor models).
Obviously, the Acura Performance should top the power and torque specs of the Type S while hopefully providing at least 340–350 miles of range on a full charge as well. For now, everything about its capabilities should be taken as a rumor. Hopefully, more will be unveiled tomorrow at The Quail or on August 18, whe it will show up at the 73rdPebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance. There, those interested should find the Acura Performance EV Concept on display in the Concept Lawn area.
Those interested in electric vehicles should check out Peter Wretzky's Driving Towards Sustainability: A Deep Dive into Electric Vehicle History: A guide to the history of the electric car and how it is shaping the future of modern travel, which is currently down from $9.99 to $4.99 in the Kindle version, while the paperback variant can be acquired for $9.99.
