Ethereum Layer 2 Networks Set New Record with 12.42M Daily Transactions

Ethereum layer-2 (L2) networks have set a new record with 12.42 million daily transactions, indicating a massive surge in scalability and user activity.

This achievement marks a significant increase from the previous all-time high (ATH) of 11.5 million transactions set on April 4. The record-setting day saw a total of 12.52 million L2 transactions, according to data from growthepie.

The surge in L2 transactions is largely attributed to Coinbase’s Base and Arbitrum One, which led the way in driving this record volume.

Base, a relative newcomer to the Ethereum ecosystem, led the pack with 3.98 million transactions on the record-setting day. Launched just over a year ago, Base has quickly become a dominant force in the L2 space.

Arbitrum One also saw impressive numbers with 1.79 million transactions on August 13. The network, which has been operating for nearly three years, has maintained a strong presence in the Ethereum L2 landscape.

Together, Base and Arbitrum One played a major role in scaling Ethereum’s capabilities and facilitating a record number of transactions on L2 networks.

Interestingly, despite the surge in transaction counts, the fees incurred by users experienced a dramatic decline. On August 13, the total fees paid across Ethereum L2 networks dropped to just $171,514, a significant decrease from the peak of $4.2 million observed on March 5.

This 96% reduction in fees reflects a broader trend of decreased costs for users, even as transaction volumes reach new records. The lower fee environment could further drive adoption and use of Ethereum’s L2 solutions.
