Vuzix debuts M400 Xtreme smart glasses kit with Xtreme Weather power bank for use in harsh environments

Vuzix has debuted the Android-powered M400 Xtreme smart glasses kit with the Xtreme Weather power bank for harsh environment use in sectors such as the medical, construction, power generation and manufacturing industries.

The Xtreme currently runs Android 11, with Android 13 coming later this year. An 8-core 2.52 GHz Qualcomm XR1 CPU with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB flash storage is coupled with a slew of sensors, including GPS and GLONASS for location tracking and navigation as well as a 3-axis gyroscope, accelerometer, and magnetic compass for head tracking. The M400 has 802.11ac dual-band and Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connectivity.

Users of the M400 Xtreme can control apps using the touchpad, four buttons, and voice control while viewing everything on a 2000 nits OLED display with a 16.8° FoV and 640 x 360 resolution. An auto-focusing 13 MP camera with LED can be used to scan barcodes, conduct online video meetings, take photos, and stream 1080p 60 fps videos. Three noise-cancelling microphones along with a 97 dB speaker allow for calls in noisy environments.

The glasses and power bank are rated for -4° F to 113° F (-20° C to 45° C) temperatures, are IP67-rated for water and dust exposure, and rated to survive two meter falls. A headband designed for comfort helps ensure that the glasses stay put all day long.

The M400 also has IEC60601-1-2:2014 Medical Device and ISO 14644-1 Class 2 Cleanroom ratings for use in hospitals and electronics manufacturing plants. The 3200 mAh Xtreme Weather power bank connects to the glasses using a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port.

The Vuzix M400 Xtreme kit is now available for $1,799.99. A free Collaboration Package with communications tools, such as Microsoft Teams, Vuzix Video Conferencing for Zoom, and Webex Connector App for Smart Glasses, is included until January 31, 2025.

Readers with an itch to try out a pair of smart glasses but don’t need the durability of the Xtreme can pick up a pair of ChatGPT glasses (like these on Amazon)to talk to and listen to music on-the-go.
