Asanuma has unveiled the Apexel APL-MS200 200x smartphone microscope with multiple LED ring lights that can be set to three brightness levels and two color temperatures. The lights can be set to only shine from the right or left side of the lens. A circular polarizer in front of a multi-lens objective minimizes internal reflections for clear photos with reduced reflections and glare. The microscope also has a 395 nm ultraviolet (UV) light for the detection and photography of objects that fluoresce, such as blood or anti-counterfeit threads in currency bills.

The microscope lens module slides from left to right, adapting to various smartphone lens locations. The smartphone lens must be located at least 17 mm from the top edge of the phone and 15 mm from the left edge. Examples of compatible phones include the Apple iPhone 12 to iPhone 15, Samsung Galaxy S23 and S24, and Google Pixel 7 and 8 models. Other phones with the compatible lens locations can also be used.
