Canalys: Global tablet shipments will grow by 18% in the second quarter of 2024

The latest report from Canalys, a world-renowned technology market analysis agency, shows that in the second quarter of 2024, global tablet shipments increased by 18% year-on-year to 35.9 million units. Meanwhile, Chromebook shipments increased 4% to 6 million units as the education market returned to typical seasonal purchasing patterns.

In the second quarter of 2024, Apple continued to lead the global tablet market, shipping 13.9 million units and occupying 39% of the market share. Thanks to strong shipments of Samsung's flagship models and growing demand in emerging markets in the Asia-Pacific region, it achieved year-on-year growth of 13%, with shipments of 6.8 million units.

Driven by domestic and European, Central and African (EMEA) market demand, Huawei ranks firmly in third place, with shipments of 2.5 million units, a year-on-year increase of 51%. As Lenovo strengthened its global business, it ranked fourth with shipments of 2.5 million units, a year-on-year increase of 16%. Xiaomi ranks fifth, surpassing Amazon with a significant 106% growth rate and 2.1 million units shipped.

Global Chromebook Market Performance

Canalys analyst Greg Davis said that Chromebook shipments experienced typical seasonal growth in the second quarter, with a year-on-year increase of 4%, and shipments of just over 6 million units.

In the Chromebook market, HP shipped 1.7 million units in the second quarter of 2024, with a market share of 28%, continuing to maintain its first place. Lenovo ranked second, with global Chromebook shipments of 1.5 million units, a year-on-year increase of 9%.

Acer, the fastest growing company this quarter, ranked third with shipments of 1.2 million units due to its success in government tenders in the Asia-Pacific region. Dell and Asus ranked fourth and fifth respectively, with both experiencing year-on-year declines in shipments.
