Chinese smartphone manufacturers have been trimming down the thickness of foldable phones, and currently, it's the Honor Magic V3 that holds the crown. It measures only 9.2 mm when closed and 4.35 mm when unfolded. The recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, on the other hand, measures 12.1 mm when folded and 5.6 mm when opened.
However, earlier reports claimed that Samsung would rival the Chinese manufacturers with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. It was said to target an extra-thin foldable form factor, measuring 7.7 mm when closed. However, a recent report from The Elec claims that the folding phone, which would be called Galaxy W25in China, will measure 11.5 mm instead.
The Elec further reports that an industry insider has added that the Samsung Z Fold 6 Slim couldn't be thinner than 11 mm because of "reliability issues." Here, by reliability, the insider is referring to the 200-thousand-cycle folding tests, dust resistance, and water resistance.
Besides that, The Elec reports that the parts that have been trimmed down for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim are already in the mass production stage. The Korean news outlet also says that this upcoming foldable phone will sporta 6.5-inch external and a 8-inch internal screen. Both are larger than the existing Z Fold 6 (512 GB curr.$1,899.99on Amazon). Another notable info that the outlet has shared is that the expected launch timeline is at the end of this year, and reportedly, not all the markets will get it.
