Jump Crypto Launches Million Bug Bounty for Solana's Firedancer Validator Client

Firedancer is a highly anticipated new validator client for the Solana blockchain, and its creator is urging developers to investigate any critical flaws thoroughly.

Solana developers can now earn up to $1 million for finding critical flaws in the new Firedancer validator client, thanks to a 42-day bug bounty program launched on July 10 by Jump Crypto.

Firedancer is a highly anticipated new validator client for the Solana blockchain, and its creator is urging developers to investigate any critical flaws thoroughly.

Starting on July 10, Solana developers will be able to earn up to $1 million by identifying flaws in the forthcoming "Firedancer" independent validator client.

The first-ever bug bounty program for Firedancer is being offered by Jump Crypto and will be powered by the Immunefi bug bounty platform for 42 days, from July 10 to August 21, according to Cointelegraph.

Developers will have the chance to earn from a $1 million rewards pool, which will be paid out in USD Coin. The maximum payout for a single bounty is $1 million.

Firedancer is a new validator client that is expected to improve the efficiency of Solana's network. As an independent client validator, Firedancer could be critical in processing transactions and assembling block constructions within Solana's $60 billion network.

Firedancer has been touted as a superior alternative to "QUIC," a data transfer protocol created by Google that has struggled to process transactions during periods of high network activity on Solana in the past.

Cantelope Peel, a pseudonymous engineer at blockchain infrastructure firm Jump Crypto, is leading the development of Firedancer v0.1 and announced the bounty program on July 3.

Peel said the team is actively testing and building its initial implementations of the Solana consensus and fork choice algorithms.

“We are also working on live voting and various other little bits around that,” Peel added.

Firedancer is being implemented in the C and C++ software languages to accommodate high trading volumes.

Solana Labs CEO and co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko has previously said that Firedancer has the potential to increase the speed of the Solana network.

Participants to complete KYC for Solana's Firedancer bug bounty program

Individuals who wish to participate in the bounty will be required to submit their Know Your Client information upon registration.

Immunefi said any bugs discovered in Firedancer v0.1 will be triaged and addressed within 24 hours on weekdays during the bounty.

Immunefi will be publishing an event-specific leaderboard and posting reports shortly after the bounty, it added.

Firedancer was first launched on a Solana testnet in Nov. 2023. According to Firedancer's GitHub, Peel and Jump Crypto have been working on the Solana validator client since Jan. 30, 2023.

In March, Peel suggested that they could be working on implementing a version of Firedancer on Ethereum, but no major developments have been announced yet.
