In a recent interview with Flaunt magazine, the 33-year-old “Nancy Drew” actress stated that she has “never gotten a job” because of her famous father, Eric Roberts, or her aunt, Julia Roberts.
Emma Roberts, the niece of Julia Roberts, has opened up about the challenges she faces in Hollywood due to her family connections, addressing the recent discussion about "nepo babies." In an interview with Flaunt magazine, the 33-year-old actress shared her experiences and criticized a New York Magazine feature on the topic.
Despite her famous lineage, Roberts claims that her family's connections have not benefited her career. In fact, she alleges that their reputations have led to her losing out on roles.
“I’ve never gotten a job because of it, I know I definitely have lost a couple of jobs because of it,” she told the magazine. “I’ve lost more jobs than I’ve gained from being in the business.”
She also took aim at New York Magazine's 2022 "Nepo Baby" feature, which sparked controversy by putting several celebrity children on the cover of the magazine as babies.
“It was a cheap shot to put all the celebrity kids on the cover of a magazine on babies’ bodies, like, it was kind of this viral hating-on-people thing,” she said.
In a previous interview on Bruce Bozzi's "Table for Two" podcast, Roberts criticized the double standard she observed in how women are portrayed in discussions about nepotism in Hollywood.
“I always joke, ‘Why is no one calling out George Clooney for being a nepo baby? [His aunt] Rosemary Clooney was an icon,'” she told the hosts.
Roberts began her acting career at the age of 13 with a role in the Nickelodeon series "Unfabulous." She went on to appear in films such as "Nancy Drew" (2007), "Valentine's Day" (2010), and the "Scream 4" (2011).
