While both of 2024's three-coin commemorative programs are experiencing rather slow sales, sales for the Greatest Generation program are ahead of sales for the Harriet Tubman commemoration.
Sales for the U.S. Mint’s 2024 Harriet Tubman Bicentennial Commemorative Coin Program are lagging behind sales for the Greatest Generation Commemorative Coin Program, despite the Tubman coins becoming available to the public earlier this year.
The latest sales figures, released by the bureau June 23 and covering products ordered through June 20, show that sales for the Tubman coins are tracking at 75% of the Greatest Generation coins after 163 days of availability compared to 122 days, respectively.
Both programs are experiencing rather slow sales, with each program’s gold coins selling at a rate of about 50% of the gold coins from the 2023 American Innovation dollar program after 163 days of availability.
Each coin program calls for a maximum combined production and release in Proof and Uncirculated versions of up to 50,000 $5 gold coins, 400,000 silver dollars and 750,000 copper-nickel clad half dollars.
Each program also offers a limited-edition three-coin Proof set, each with a maximum release of 5,000 sets.
The Harriet Tubman program is authorized under provisions of the Harriet Tubman Bicentennial Commemorative Coin Act, Public Law 117-163. The Greatest Generation program is authorized under provisions of the Greatest Generation Commemorative Coin Act, Public Law 117-162.
Both programs feature designs emblematic of their respective commemorations and bear inscriptions of “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The gold coins are struck in 90% gold and carry a legal tender face value of $5. The silver dollars are struck in .999 fine silver and carry a legal tender face value of $1. The copper-nickel clad half dollars are struck in .750 copper, .250 nickel composition and carry a legal tender face value of 50 cents.
The pricing for the gold coins is subject to weekly movement in response to market changes and in accord with a pricing matrix the Mint uses to determine prices for coins containing precious metals.
