Cybertruck crashes into Toyota Camry in a first recorded Tesla cam accident with the stainless steel truck

In between reports about surface rust, deformed panels coming from the factory, or wiper recalls, it is easy to forget how tough the hulking Tesla Cybertruck really is.

In what might be one of the first direct crashes of a Cybertruck with another passenger vehicle recorded by its Tesla camera, a Toyota Camry found this the hard way.

While coming out of an intersection, the Camry went a bit too optimistic for a left turn, exposing its front to the Cybertruck's bumper.

Yes, bumper, as that's what barely got scratched, while the Camry's front crumpled as intended, despite the relatively low speed of the two vehicles.

Needless to say, it's good that nobody got hurt, because this predictable result would likely happen with any other hulking pickup truck. The Cybertruck has been deemed so counter to Tesla's initial credo, though, that the startling similarities with accidents involving ICE trucks are always attracting attention.

That's what Elon Musk is positioning the Cybertruck as, after all - a big bad ICE pickup truck replacement for work and offroad play - and the electric pickup delivers in spades, including during road accidents with smaller vehicles.

The Cybertruck passed its crash tests with flying colors and, prior to its release, Elon Musk boasted that it might be the safest ever truck per mile driven. Tesla argued that it is also safer for pedestrians, comparing its sloping hood with the wall of a front that, say, a Ford F-150 has.

Still, the Cybertruck's danger for pedestrians and other traffic participants that is coming from its edgy body is the reason it can't be sold in Europe.

Recently, Elon hinted that Tesla will have to change to "worse"design in order to sell it there next year, but it didn't become clear if that would mean just rounding the corners, or a deeper redesign, including a smaller size more suitable for the European tastes.
