Apple iOS 17.4 RC released: 118 new Emojis added, new CarPlay enabled, and more

This update comes 41 days after the last release.

The new EmojiiOS 17.4 Beta 1 update adds a series of directional character emojis including phoenix, lime, and a smiley face shaking its head up and down, from the Emoji 15.1 update proposed by Unicode in September 2023.

Updates

1. 118 new Emojis:

   • 6 brand new Emojis
   • 4 gender-neutral family Emojis
   • 6 new direction-specific versions of existing character emojis
   • 108 new emojis in total (including gender and skin tone variations)

New CarPlay

For drivers of certain cars, CarPlay has added the following new options:

• "A new dashboard experience", Can display information about upcoming operations

The iOS 17.4 podcast app initially only supports transcribing podcasts in English, French, German and Spanish. Later, the transcription function will be opened to more than 170 countries and regions including China.

From iOS / Starting from iPadOS16.4 Developer Preview Beta 1, you need to register for the Apple Developer Program. After registration, open the system [Settings] [Software Update] to see the upgrade options.
Please note that your iPhone or iPad must be logged in with the same Apple ID you used to sign up for the Apple Developer Program in order to see the upgrade option in settings.

In future iOS and iPadOS releases, this new setting will be the way to enable developer previews and public betas, and configuration profiles will no longer grant access.
