Garmin Edge 1050 released with design, feature and Garmin Pay upgrades

Garmin has now released the Edge 1050 following a spate of leaks. For reference, while the Edge 1050 succeeds the Edge 1040 (curr. $579.99 on Amazon), Garmin has not offered a direct Edge 1040 Solar replacement. Instead, the Edge 1050 is rated for up to 60 hours of usage with battery-saver mode enabled or 20 hours with all its power-hungry features active. According to DC Rainmaker, 20 hours of battery life is an accurate representation of what to expect from the Edge 1050 in a worse-case scenario.

As expected, Garmin has also equipped its new Edge cycling computer with a 3.5-inch colour LCD panel that outputs at 480 x 800 pixels and at up to 1,000 nits. Additionally, the Edge 1050 boasts 64 GB of built-in storage, as well as an array of sensors like multi-band GNSS, a barometric altimeter and a gyroscope, among others. Moreover, Garmin has pre-installed its Connect IQ suite and has made the Edge 1050 compatible with its Garmin Pay service.

Furthermore, Garmin has included cycling computer-specific features like Groupride, Road Hazard Alerts and Event Adaptive Training. On top of that, the Edge 1050 has a built-in speaker that can deliver workout and navigation prompts or serve as a bike bell should you not have one installed. The Edge 1050 is available to order now in multiple markets, including the US where it retails for $699.99. Please see Garmin's website for further details.
