Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has urged its customers to exercise patience as the token meter updates continue rolling out ahead of the August 31 deadline.

In response to a customer enquiry on why she had yet to receive the codes to reset and update her meter, the electricity distributor clarified that the process is being carried out in phases.

KPLC stated that customers will be notified via SMS when their meter update phase commences, along with the necessary instructions.

How to update your token meter

According to KPLC, customers will receive two codes via SMS. The first code is to be used for resetting the meter, while the second code is for updating it.

Once customers receive an SMS from Kenya Power to update their meters, they should key in code one to reset and code two to update.

How many meters are being upgraded?

Kenya Power disclosed that a total of 7.4 million meters are being upgraded and cautioned that any prepaid meters that fail to be updated by the August deadline will be unable to accept electricity tokens.
