Worldcoin (WLD) Rallies Today Following Announcement of Expansion Plans to Ecuador

Cryptocurrency project Worldcoin (WLD) announced today its plans to expand into Ecuador.

The project, co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, will introduce Worldcoin’s orb verifications to the country.

This latest expansion is part of Worldcoin’s broader efforts to create a global identity verification network.

The announcement comes as Ecuador joins other Latin American regions, including Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, and Colombia, in offering Worldcoin’s identity verification services.

According to a recent Tools for Humanity survey by Worldcoin contributors, 92% of Ecuadorian respondents support the need for verification technology to distinguish between humans and bots online.

The survey also found that 90% of respondents in Peru believe verification technology is crucial for the future, while 84% view it as essential for secure digital interactions.

In related news, Worldcoin is set to upgrade its base in Argentina into a regional hub, which will oversee the development of Worldcoin orb verification locations and the launch of experience stores.

Meanwhile, WLD is rallying today, currently trading at $3.09, up 11% in the past 24 hours.

The price marks a recovery for WLD, which has seen a 16.7% decline over the last seven days.

However, despite the expansion plans, Worldcoin has faced legal challenges in some regions.

In Spain, for example, Worldcoin halted operations after a data protection probe by the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).

The AEPD suspended Worldcoin’s collection and processing of personal data following complaints from several respondents regarding insufficient information, data harvesting from minors, and the inability to withdraw consent.

Worldcoin has come under fire for its handling of personal data in Spanish territory.

In March, the project took on Spain’s regulators, challenging the AEPD’s stance on privacy, setting the stage for a legal clash that could redefine global standards for individual privacy rights and the boundaries of technical innovations within regulatory frameworks.
