Naomi Campbell has slammed the fashion industry for making "tick box" efforts to promote diversity and inclusion.

The supermodel, who has graced countless magazine covers and runways throughout her decades-long career, expressed her frustration with the industry's tendency to make token gestures rather than meaningful changes.

"I'm tired of hearing people say, 'Oh my God, we did this for diversity.' It's like, really?" Campbell, 53, told The Cut in a recent interview. "I've been in this business for 37 years. I've seen people come and go. I've seen trends come and go. But I've never seen anything change."

Campbell's comments come at a time when the fashion industry is under increasing pressure to become more diverse and inclusive. In recent years, several major brands and designers have made public commitments to promoting diversity and inclusion, both on and off the runway.

However, Campbell argues that these efforts are often more about appearances than substance.

"They're just checking boxes," she said. "They're not actually interested in creating opportunities for people of all backgrounds."

Campbell's criticism is not new. She has long been an outspoken advocate for greater diversity and inclusion in the fashion industry. In 2019, she launched the "Diversity Coalition" to push for more representation of models of color in the industry.

But despite her efforts and the efforts of others, Campbell says she has yet to see significant progress.

"I'm still waiting for the day when I can walk into a fashion show and see a truly diverse lineup of models," she said. "I'm still waiting for the day when I can open a fashion magazine and see covers that reflect the world we live in."

Until then, Campbell says she will continue to speak out against the fashion industry's "tick box" mentality.

"I'm not going to be silenced," she said. "I'm going to keep fighting for what I believe in."
