Apple Vision Pro 2: New rumours reveal current release plans for Apple\'s next VR headset

The Information has shared new details about the state of a Vision Pro successor. For context, while Apple presented the Vision Pro over a year ago, it did not begin shipping units until early February in the US. Additionally, the company recently announced that the Vision Pro would be available in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore and the UK, albeit not until this summer.

The expansion of Vision Pro availability does not coincide with the headset's success, though. Instead, Ming-Chi Kuo has already reduced his 2024 sales forecasts from 800,000 to as low as 400,000 units. Seemingly, poor sales numbers have had a knock-on effect internally, too. According toThe Information, Apple has now ceased development of a so-called Vision Pro 2, at least for now.

Apparently, the company has now switched to readying a cheaper Vision Pro alternative, which it intends to market for roughly $1,500, less than half the price of the current model. Originally planned to complement a Vision Pro 2, this cheaper headset is not slated to debut until the end of next year at the earliest. Based on recent rumours offered up by Mark Gurman, Apple will reduce production in various areas to hit a $1,500 launch price, including ditching the Vision Pro's external display, using lower-resolution internal displays, and even using an iPhone-derived chipset too.
