Whale Alert: 31 Million XRP Coins Moved to Bitstamp Exchange, Triggering Speculations
A massive XRP transfer caught the attention of the crypto community after the whale moved a significant amount of the coin, up to the tune of 31 million
A large XRP transfer was detected by Whale Alert on March 10. The transaction involved the movement of 30,350,000 XRP, valued at $14.8 million at the time of the transfer. The recipient of the funds was the Luxembourg-based cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp.
This whale, identified by the partial address ‘r4wf7…4Rzn,’ has been observed making substantial XRP transfers to Bitstamp and the Mexican exchange Bitso in the past months. Notably, these large transactions began following Ripple Labs' partnership announcements with both exchanges.
While the specific reason for the transaction remains unclear, large crypto transfers to centralized exchanges are often perceived as sell-offs, potentially leading to negative price movements and decreased investor confidence.
In this case, the transaction coincided with a slight dip in XRP's price, pushing it to $0.48 at the time of the transfer. However, XRP's price recovered slightly in the following hours, indicating a possible rally.
Meanwhile, another substantial XRP transaction was detected by Whale Alert within the last 24 hours. The transaction involved the movement of 32,141,202 (32.1 million) XRP from Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange by trading volume, to an unidentified wallet. At the time of the transaction, the XRP was valued at $15.6 million.
Generally, large crypto transfers from exchanges to wallets are viewed as accumulation, indicating confidence in the project's future prospects and a strategy to acquire more tokens at a lower price.
These two transactions, signaling both a sell-off and accumulation, sent mixed messages throughout the crypto market, with varying interpretations among observers.
