Pressed by the shareholders about the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) option restrictions for transfer to a newly acquired vehicle, Elon Musk initially said that the free FSD transfer offer can't become permanent.
"We have to earn revenue somehow," he chuckled, but faced rowdy "one more quarter" chants by the same stockholders who had just approved his $56 billion pay package.
"Alright, one more quarter, you got it" agreed Elon, to the delight of the crowd of Tesla fans who will now have the option to transfer their Full Self-Driving feature to a new vehicle all the way through September.
Not only that, but Tesla keeps being a good salesman and finding innovative ways to spur end-of-quarter sales to pad the Q2 shipment numbers that it is due to announce at the end of the month.
Instead of hiking the APR rate for the Model 3 today, Tesla chose to extend the 1.99% promotional loan offer until June 30, in a transparent attempt to add more sales towards the tail end of the quarter.
Previously, the exclusive APR offer that dropped the Model 3 loan rate from 6.39% to 1.99%, hence the monthly payment by about $200, was meant to expire on Sunday, June 16th.
Moreover, as if to compensate for taking the AWD version of the Model 3 out of the 1.99% APR deal, Tesla dropped its price by eliminating a $250 order fee.
It's not much, but it is something, considering that the powerful 510HP Model 3 Performance qualifies for Biden's tax credit, and can be had for basically the same price as the Long Range AWD Model 3.
Its current monthly payment on a 60-month financing plan is $815, for instance, while the Model 3 LR it is $793/month.
A negligible difference, considering the Performance offers way more of a sports car vibe for the money, unless one really needs those 40 miles of extra EPA range that the Model 3 LR offers.
