CHICO, Calif. - The downtown Chico game room and restaurant, Coin-Op, will close its doors for good this month.

The game room announced on social media that it will officially close June 30. Dozens of people commented on the post, expressing their disappointment in seeing Coin-Op close. The exact reason for the closure is still unknown.

KRCR spoke with the Downtown Chico Business Association (DCBA) President Greg Scott, who explained that these closures aren’t exactly uncommon to see.

“It fluctuates all the time. We have businesses that have been in business for like 50 years and then we have some that only last a few months.”

Scott continued, “Most of the quick turnarounds, I would say, are probably food or drink-related. Restaurant businesses are very tough and it is the reason that most of them fail.”

Scott added that the next steps to fill the soon-to-be vacant space are still unclear.

As of right now, the community reaction seems to be upset to see it go. Locals have until June 30 to get in and enjoy the Coin-Op before its time in Chico comes to a close.
