AlmaLinux OS gets Raspberry Pi 5 support

Although CentOS was discontinued two years ago, its legacy lives on. One of its successors is AlmaLinux OS, which was released at the end of March 2021. This community-supported enterprise operating system is binary-compatible with Red Hat Enterprise. Since yesterday, it officially supports the Raspberry Pi 5.

The latest AlmaLinux OS releases that now receive Raspberry Pi 5 support are 8.10 and 9.4, since both branches are supported. The images can be downloaded from the official website for those who want to enjoy a stylish Gnome desktop setup for general use, but AlmaLinux OScan also be deployed on the Raspberry Pi 5 in the shape of a versatile Linux server. Alongside the Raspberry Pi 5, AlmaLinux OSalso supports the Pi 4 Model B, Pi 400, Pi 3 Model B+, and Pi 3 Model A+. The 32-bit Pis (ARMv6/ARMv7) and Pi 3 are not supported, but other ARMv8 Raspberry Pis are supposed to work, although they have not been tested by the AlmaLinux OS team yet. Those who have already installed it and are wondering about the default user name and password should try "almalinux" for both.
