News from this site on June 8, Western Digital recently announced that its next-generation retail consumer-grade "blue disk" solid-state drive, the WD Blue SN5000, will be released this summer, including 4TB and 8TB versions.
Western Digital’s last “Blue Disk” series of consumer-grade internal solid-state drives dates back to the SN580, released in mid-2023.
SN580 supports PCIe Gen4, but its sequential read and write speeds are only 4150MB/s, which is far lower than the theoretical upper limit of Gen4x4.
WD Blue SN5000 is expected to achieve a significant improvement in sequential speed, reaching the 6000MB/s level, which is in line with the PC SN5000S launched by Western Digital for OEMs.
Western Digital also announced that the previously launched flagship PCIe Gen4 consumer solid-state drive retail model WD_BLACK SN850X will also receive an 8TB version this summer.
For reference, this site organizes the parameters of the SN850X 4TB version as follows:
Sequential read rate: 7300MB/s;
Sequential write Input rate: 6600MB/s;
Random read rate: 120K IOPS;
Random write rate: 110K IOPS.
