xml跟html有关系吗？

我感觉xml是用来定义数据的，而html是用来展示数据（元素）的。这两者完全是两个概念啊。

当初HTML是SGML的一个应用（意思是SGML可以有许多应用，比如docbook最初也是SGML的一个应用），而XML是简化了的SGML并用来取代SGML的。而XHTML就是HTML从SGML转用XML语法的结果。所以它们是有关系，但不是同个层面的东西。

注意今天的HTML已经不是当初意义上的HTML了（包含了当初的html/xhtml/dom等许多标准和api，而不是单单一个语言词汇集的定义），所以关系又弱了一层。兄弟规范关系。SGML(GML) 特定子集。
可自行搜索 SGML XML HTML 赞同@贺师俊的回答，另外需要说明的一点就是html实际也是结构层，表现那是css的事情
