Bounce Imaging announces worlds first throwable 360 thermal camera

At the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) annual conference, Bounce Imaging showcased its latest advancements in throwable camera technology. The Pit Viper 360, named for the serpent's ability to sense infrared radiation, utilizes six thermal imaging cores to create a panoramic image of the environment in which it is thrown. The softball-sized camera transmits video, self-stabilizes, and is exceptionally portable. All of the features can be accessed using the accompanying app.

The announcement does not mention if The Pit Viper 360 will include features found in the other 360 cameras offered by Bounce Imaging. For example, the Explorer camera includes two-way audio, allowing the user to communicate through the camera and listen in on anything happening in the environment. Additionally, there is a 4G LTE variant that extends the range of usability. However, the cellular functionality is provided through a partnership with Verizon and requires a cloud subscription from Bounce Imaging.

Still, defense personnel and first responders alike have expressed appreciation for the device. Bounce Imaging has developed all its tactical cameras for a variety of use cases. Local and Federal agencies have purchased many of the cameras for safety and rescue operations, crisis negotiation, K-9 applications, and special ops.

With prices for the cameras starting at $4,000, it is unlikely that the Pit Viper 360 will fall below that price point. Despite not being an attractive prospect for general consumers, the Pit Viper 360 and its state-of-the-art features are sure to find their way into government agencies.
